The Quad XP-581 from Elenco provides four separate, fully regulated power supplies. Three are fixed and yield +5 VDC at 3 amps, -12 VDC at 1 amp, or +12 VDC at 1 amp. The fourth supply is variable, producing 2.5 to 20 volts of DC output at up to 2 amps. Line and output voltages are regulated to within 0.05 volts, and the supply is linear. All four supplies are shortproof as well. A current foldback circuit in each supply collapses the field in the event of a short, a current surge from the line, or an excessive current demand. Thus, both the Quad XP-580 and the equipment it's driving are normally protected from inadvertent errors or power company problems. Elenco built the supply as only Elenco will. The handsome, hooded metal case, - measuring 3-1/4" x 8-1/4" x 9-1/4" and weighing nine pounds - has a 3-wire grounded power cord for 115 VAC operation, panel meters for both current and voltage, and standard jacks for accessing the four regulated supplies. A two-year limited warranty and schematic is also included.

Not every well-made rotary tool is a big-D. We consider this one not only a good-quality tool, but an excellent buy. The fitted plastic carrying case 12" x 8-1/2" x 3-1/2" contains not only the 120VAC-powered 8,000-30,000 rpm mini grinder, but a stand with a C-clamp to mount it on a bench or table, a 3-ft extension shaft, and a good assortment of bits, grinding stones, cut-off wheels, etc, including collets to fit 1/8" and 1/16" bits. This deluxe ABS storage case is called a Store-It-ALL, and it does. But it could be called a Carry-It-ALL, for the sturdy handle and locking clasp, or it could be called a See-It-ALL, for its translucent lid. Or a Fits-It-ALL, for the removable dividers that let you configure it with any number of compartments from 5 to 26. But the 12" x 18" x 3" OA case should really be called ALL-I-Ever-Needed- To-Get-Organized!

All together now, boys and girls, can you say BARGAIN? A bonanza assortment of (100) 1/8" shank rotary tool attachments: wheels, brushes, stones, sanding wheels, buffing pads, and sundry other stuff. All in a nice wooden box with the latch on upside down-so write "top" on the top. Is that why it's here? That, and the cardboard sleeve that tells us to heed an "importan" warning.

Originally intended for hospital use (Think Nurse Cratchit. Think cold, wet sponge baths.), these 12” x 9–1/2” x 4–1/4” deep washbasins have rounded ends and flat lips. The #5 plastic is that wonderful institutional–yellow color. But they’re indestructible, short of melting them, and they nest when not in use. Use them to store your craft supplies, the kid’s action figures, the cat’s squeeze toys. Or take up nursing.

Titled "The Field and Forest Handy Book," this volume has been justifiably in print since 1906. Written by Daniel C. "Uncle Dan" Beard, the founder of the Sons of Daniel Boone and one of the founders of the BSA, it's a compendium of eternally relevant woodland lore, from building cabins, sleds, boats, and bridges to camping in swamps. The only part we skipped was on how to cook a muskrat. (We know a place that delivers.) Loaded with illustrations. In soft cover from David Godine's Nonpareil Books, 428 pages.

Black is the new black, and this is the solid black plastic HDPE dispenser bottle (think hand-lotion style) that the cognoscenti will be putting their dishwashing detergent and other nonfood liquids in, so they don't violate the aesthetic of the loft. Holds approx 12 oz and measures 7-5/8" tall x 3-1/16" x 1-5/8" oval, with a flip-up spout. Has a slight countersink nearly the full length of both the front and back if you want to add a tasteful label. Very sleek.

This all-purpose scissors is the favorite of everyone at A.S.&S.: Pat uses his to cut and strip wire. C.J. uses his to slit the tape on packages. Mary Ann uses hers to open bags of pretzels. It's 6-1/4" long overall, with a very sharp 2" stainless steel blade and large, comfortable handles. It would sell for $9.95 retail if it was new, but it was used for one day to cut cloth in the assembly plant of a major car company, then discarded. Quality control is a wonderful thing.
