Luminous Paint
This water–reducible acrylic–based paint sticks to most surfaces and glows in the dark after only a brief exposure to bright ambient light. We have a 2 oz bottle of yellow/green that will glow for up to 20 hours. This works great for Halloween costumes and hobby applications, and glows like crazy under blacklight. And without a single radionuclide! Amazing!

Love Meter
AKA hand boiler. An exotic bit of hand blown glass with a bulb at top and bottom connected by some zippy tubing that spirals, loops, and/or jogs. In the closed system is some colored liquid (methyl chloride) that is very light. Hold the lower bulb in you hand and as the air in the system is warmed it pushes the fluid through the loops to the upper chamber. When all the liquid is pushed out of the lower bulb, expanding air will bubble through the tubing making it appear that the liquid is boiling. WARNING! The glass is fragile and the liquid is nasty. If you drop the thing on e.g. the kitchen tile, it will eat the finish off the tile and the stain in the liquid will permanently stain the floor. So don't let kids handle this item unsupervised. About 7" tall, it is a favorite in our stores.

A Real Grabber
Okay, it isn't the cheapest magnet in the warehouse - but we dragged John's 165 lb filing cabinet around the dock with this 4-7/8" x 1" x 3/4" ceramic magnet, we're rating it conservatively at 100 lbs of pull, and we think it's a bargain. It has a 6" bracket with mounting holes on 5-1/2" centers, plus a 1/2" ID eyehook bolted into the center of it. It's all set to troll the bottom of the lake next time your filing cabinet falls overboard.

Plastic siren/whistle made in West Germany. A touch over 3/4" in diameter and a similar touch under 2" long. that makes it hard, but not impossible, to swallow, so please use care in teaching youngsters to sound like a miniature air raid siren. The well-made whistle has a perforated metal disk that rotates in response to a silent blast from the perpetrator's, lungs. This creates a high-pitched reasonably loud and certainly distinctive siren-sound that picks up pitch in relation to the air velocity, sustains it as long as your wind holds out, and winds down quickly thereafter. A fine way to signal your arrival or departure. Probably not loud enough to collect the clan at the beach, but it should get their attention in the classroom!!

Direct To Modular
Don't toss out that obsolete direct-wire phone. It was made back in the old days, when telephones were made to last a lifetime instead of a year and a half. Use it, instead, with your modular wall jack and this 25 ft cream-colored base cord. It has a standard modular connector on one end and spade connectors on the other, and supports (1) or (2) lines. You get a working phone, and a warm feeling for saving the life of that reliable collectible.

Designed for watchmakers, this aluminum loupe with a 1" dia, 10x glass lens snugs to your eye, but leaves your hands free, thanks to the flexible 15" headband that encircles your head. It has a 1-1/2" working distance, and would come in handy, too, if you poke around in needlepoint or manipulate anything miniature.

A Lot Of Pull
Pick up this 1-3/4" x 7/8" x 3/8" ceramic pick-up magnet while we still have it. It's in a heavy metal housing and has a stationary metal hoop, about 1/2" i.d., on top. The manufacturer tells us the magnet will grab up to 30 lbs of metal, and while Pat wouldn't bet on anything over 20 lbs, it's still very strong. Especially if you're going to dangle it on the end of a cord to gather spilled nails or to fish your keys out of the lake/pond/sewer/drain!

Or, help for the directionally challenged. The compass ball is black with white markings and is suspended in fluid in a clear plastic sphere, 1-3/4" dia. suction cup at the bottom. We refer to up and down, but you can mount it with the suction cup in any direction.

A hard-to-beat magnifier, especially for field work, where you may not have the light you need. The area below the 11/16" dia lens in this loupe is lit by a white LED (the 2 AG-12 batteries come with it). It's at least a 5X magnification but not, we feel, the 10X it claims on the case. It has a push-on, push-off switch. It swivels into a compact 2-1/2" x 1-1/4" x 3/4" metal cover, and can hang on a chain or stay in its plastic storage case, along with the tiny screwdriver that opens the battery compartment. Very illuminating.

A nice 3X loupe, 2-3/8" dia, that folds into its own 3-3/8" x 2-5/8" tear-drop-shaped plastic case, and it's only 5/8" thick, just right for sliding into your pocket. Pay no attention the "6X" markings on the package-if mistakes didn't happen, we wouldn't be in business.
