Cool Tool
Winner of this week's "What IS That?" award. It's a watch crab, also called a spanner wrench, that's designed to remove the back from watches, lenses from telescopes, and other thin, flat components from whatever they're attached to. Heavy for its size, it's 1" x 2-3/4" x 3/8" thick, with sharp 1/4" prongs projecting from the edge. The prongs move from 2" to 7/16" apart as you spin the furled nut between them. An impressive tool to flash in front of your brother-in-law. If he doesn't read our catalog, he won't have a clue!

Diving Submarine

Back in the days when technology was a good guy, kids got diving submarines that they charged with baking powder and played with in the bath tub. Now kids can have the same fun again. We have found a (gray!) submarine, about 3" long, that can dive and surface up to a dozen times with a single charge of the baking powder that you get to supply. Comes with instructions.

Gala Garlands
We have this fete fetish. Our souls rejoice in decorations like these holiday garlands. We wind the arch little garlands around desk or doorway, anchoring them with tape or a few small nails. We switch the 9-ft wire garlands with their small plastic cutouts from white wedding bells to black Halloween cats to red Christmas designs, always instep with the seasons (and with birthdays and new babies). Moving Sand Art
Black and white sand in a viscous colored fluid. The sand and fluid are between 5-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high panes of glass, framed on a gimbaled stand. Flip the panel and watch the sand swirl and eddy into endlessly new pictures of dunes, drifts, mountains or moonscapes, depending on your imagination and the pattern they form. The mix of black and white creates a definite third dimension to the images. They come in assorted colored plastic frames (our choice) and are pretty neat, as these things go.

“Men’s Room.” “Exit.” “Never put off until tomorrow what you can put off until the week after next.” Craft an artful message on one of these good–looking 3/8” to 1/2” thick pressboard plaques with beveled edges. All are light–colored, all have a couple of 3/8” dia holes near the top. For a nice down–home country look, hang your plaque by the 20” to 35” lengths of twine threaded through the holes. For a classy look, apply a faux metal finish, drill (2) more holes, and mount it with brass screws. Perfect for whatever message you want to send.

Popcorn Rock…

That’s right, a rock that grows crystals that look sort of like popcorn! Just immerse it in vinegar and wait 1 to 3 weeks (instructions included). It looks like a roughly 2" lump of coal before crystal growth, in case you were wondering. Truly amazing!

It's just a clear-acrylic letter opener, but it has (5) functions. There is a 5/8" dia 4X magnifying lens, and a 2-1/2" x 1/2" magnifying bar that is 1.5X. A "One gizmo does all" marvel. It really works as a binocular, magnifier/linen tester, and has a signaling mirror, and compass all in a roughly 1-1/2" sq x 3-3/4" long package. The bino eyepieces and objectives fold against the body with the objectives doubling as magnifiers when used alone. The signaling mirror makes a good examining table for bugs and seeds etc and is conveniently located under one of the lenses. It should make a good "going off to camp" gift!

Pills With Punch
Add a little pizazz to your nitro pills! This 1-3/4" x 1/2" dia container for meds is anodized aluminum in mostly silver but also could be in blue, turquoise, purple, red, gold (our choice). It's gasketed so it's watertight. We recommend cleaning the inside with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol before using, since some have a bit of rust-colored residue in them. Flashy!

Give posters, glasses, maybe sweatshirts (we didn't test it on fabric) a warm GLOW. The goo in the 1/3-oz tube is the consistency of white glue and works just like it, but comes in pastel pink, peach, green and yellow, all of which glow in the dark. It has a narrow writing tip under a screw cap. We'll pick at least (2) different colors for you.
