Litmus Paper
Chemically treated paper strips to test for acid or base (alkaline) solutions. Use the blue for acids, the red for bases. The more sophisticated pH test paper strip indicates pH from 1 (bright red) to 14 (dark brown). Values in between can be read by comparing with a color chart that comes with the strips. All have (100) strips of test paper per vial.

Needle File Set
Miniature 5–1/2" steel needle files. They come in the usual assortment of flat, wedge, triangular, and round shapes, (10) in all. They seem to be pretty uniformly fine with none that we would call coarse. Made in China, they come in a vinyl carrying case that snaps shut. Not as classy as some of the sets we have seen in the $12.00 range, but perfectly serviceable for most applications. And at a third the price.

Screaming Yellow Banners
Each has black lettering stenciled on bright yellow plastic tape, with the message repeated over and over. They are 3" wide by 200 ft or 1000 ft long. All are the real thing, made for sale to police and other serious users. Some have an obvious industrial application, some will work in the school playground, some seem appropriate to cordon off the kids’ rooms.

The Survival Bottle itself is an acrylic, 27-ounce water bottle with a screwcap and keeper. Another oldie but goodie. 5" high evacuated clear glass bulb mounted in a black stand, 3" in diameter at the top. A four bladed vane is balanced on a needle inside the sphere. Because opposite surfaces of the vanes are black and white, incident radiant energy is absorbed or reflected to a different degree. The result is a spinning vane. The brighter the light, the faster it spins. Simple, but compelling. Brief explanatory instruction sheet included.
