We believe these rectangular plastic lenses were intended for the view finders in inexpensive cameras. at 15mm x 21.5mm, with a short (-80mm) focal length, and a half aluminized side, they produce a reduced scale image projected onto another image. For instance, hold the half aluminized side toward you about 4" from your eye, and look at a wall. You will see a magnified image of your eye "projected" on a slightly out of focus and reduced image of the wall!! Now move the lens about 10" from your eye, put the tip of a pen about 2" from the lens and you get a big image of the pen superimposed on a reduced image of the rest of the world. Your get the idea!! Good to muse about, explain the optics for a science project, or just use to show your friends how weird the people at American Science are. We'll send you two so your friends can show their friends!!
