We just want to celebrate…this magnet. (Classic rock fans, you’re welcome for the references.) This plated rare earth cylinder magnet measures 9/16" x 11/16" with a 5/16" x 3/8" slotted hole (we think that’s what it’s called) in the center. It’s a strong bugger at 10 lbs lifting power in the ends, and very shiny silver. Hole makes it great for attaching string to it and retrieving keys lost down the sewer or well. Or singing suppositories. The pair is very magnetic, whatever they are. The 1-3/4" long prolate spheroids look like highly polished black hematites. Hold them an inch apart in your palm, toss 'em into the air and listen to them make a sound like the cyber-crickets. Or an electrocuted chicken. The manufacturer suggests keeping these mega-magnets away from computers, pacemakers, TV sets and credit cards.

Okay, it isn't the cheapest magnet in the warehouse - but we pulled about 35-40 pounds with this 4-7/8" x 1" x 3/4" ceramic magnet,  and we think it's a bargain. It has a 6" bracket with mounting holes on 5-1/2" centers, plus a 1/2" ID eyehook bolted into the center of it. It's all set to troll the bottom of the lake next time your filing cabinet falls overboard.

Remember when people said that? No? Ask your dad. We brought it back because we miss '80s surfer dudes and because it's such a good headline for these metal nesting tubes. What is a killer rare earth magnet? Well, once upon a time, a copywriter put this little magnet next to his computer monitor and got really pretty, wavy, aurora-like effects. And then got a new monitor! Don't try this at home. Our shiny, silver-colored 1" x 1" x 3/8" neodymium magnet looks innocent, but is industrial strength, pulling something like 25 lbs with enough strength left over to erase all your credit cards. Press your hand on this 6" x 6" sheet of liquid crystal and leave a print of swirling colors that, like the mood ring of yore, you can use as a sign of your mood. The pattern will blend and fade in seconds as the crystals react to temperature. Tiny liquid crystals inside the film-like material react to the heat of your hand, 25-30°C (77-86°F) by changing colors. As science, it demonstrates the way liquid crystal displays work. And you can cut each crystal sheet into pieces to incorporate into a science project. Or just leave it out for guests to play with when the party turns boring.

Add a door/drawer pull to any ferrous surface with this 1" dia x 1/4" thick neodymium disc in a polished sleeve with a 3/16" dia hole in a stand-off. Comes with a 1" slip-ring attached, and hangs on for 22 lbs worth. Plenty handy for hanging stuff from other stuff, too.

We're liking this little plated N45 neodymium magnet because it will stand on end and stick out very prettily on the ice box. Measures 1" tall x 1/4" square with a hefty, for its size, 3-1/2 lb pull, 13,800 gauss. (Will also lie down on its side, of course, because everybody does.)

The 5/32” bore in the center of this small plated neodymium magnet just makes it easier to mount. Measures 3/4" dia x 1/4" thick with a pull of approx 7 lbs. Works great with #6 or #8 flat head screws.

Or under it, or somewhere. These 1/4" thick cork rubber sheets are approx 22” x 16”, and they’re surplus from a gasket manufacturer. They make great vibration dampers, and can be cut to fit for furniture and floor protection. Also good to deaden sound in the storage of tools, and pots and pans. Various black streaks through the brown cork may militate against bulletin-board use, but then again maybe not since the bulletins will cover that anyway. And, yes, they're perfect if your hobby just happens to be gasket-making.

Not fishnet stockings, but netting for actual fish, direct from the U.S. Army (you'd think Navy, wouldn't you?) in olive drab. It's a survival thing. You get a 10-foot x 5-foot net made of 3/4" squares individually knotted from twisted cotton/nylon, so the net won't unravel if torn. Might have a slightly musty aroma (but definitely not fishy) that a little sunshine time will fix. Great for maritime-theme decoration, bible-camp plays (filled until breaking, walking-on-water background prop…) or, we suppose, fishing. And perfect if you want to go to a costume party as Poseidon.

Small pieces of very thin plywood for your craft and model-making needs. You get 18 cubic inches, which will translate into multiple sheets of 3-ply poplar, birch or similar wood at 1/8" to 1/2" thicknesses in random shapes and sizes.
