You will survive, too, just like Gloria Gaynor, and in the woods, even. But only if you have this U.S. Army manual, cleverly titled: SURVIVAL, Department of the Army Field Manual FM21-76. It's 287 heavily illustrated pages of techniques for staying alive (add your own BeeGee jokes here) including orientation, food & cooking, fire- and shelter-making, rafts, animal, insect and plant recognition, and much more. This is the 1970 edition, but staying alive in the woods hasn't changed a whole lot since then. In soft-cover.

Joseph Cornell would have loved this one. Remember him? The assemblage artist who put boxes on the art map? Look him up. And then imagine the possibilities for this his handsomely rugged, hinged-top 7” x 7-3/4” x 1 3/4” wooden box from the U.S. Army. Painted olive drab on the outside with brass hardware, it used to be a GI artillery gunner’s quadrant instrument box. Has interior wooden bracing, perfect for a Cornell-style piece, and the words “CHEST, PACKING FOR GUNNER’S QUADRANT” stenciled in white on the hinged lid. They don’t call us “Surplus” for nothing. We’ve got scads of assorted U.S. Army insignia patches for Class A/OCP uniforms. In this assortment you’ll get (1) 35th Engineer Brigade [Class A], (1) Installation Management [Class A], (1) 310th Sustainment Command [OCP], (2) 45th Field Artillery Brigade [OCP], (3) 4th Infantry Division [OCP], (3) FORSCOM [OCP], (3) Rhode Island National Guard [Class A], (4) 96th Sustainment Brigade [Class A], and (7) 32nd Air and Missile Defense Command [Class A] patches. Class A is the dress uniform for the Army, and OCP is the everyday multi-camouflage uniform worn for duty. Patches range from 2" dia to 3-1/4"dia in various shapes and all kinds of vivid colors.

This is the helmet the French national police (Gendarmerie Nationale) once wore, and we have a bunch of them in great condition with matching, high-quality, comfortable liners. They’re similar to French M51 military pot helmets, and despite the design of this one being from the Cold War-era, they were also used in the 1960s through 1980s. Made of steel, in dark navy blue. Liner is adjustable with a hook and loop closure. Webbing chinstrap is adjustable via (2) molle buckles. These are serious helmets.

Attenzione, military buffs and woodshoppers! This Italian military steel auger bit measures 13” long x 5/8" dia with a 1/2" base that has a flattened side. We don’t know what else to say about it except that as auger bits go, it looks and feels like a good one. Collectible, yes, but also completely usable.

Can’t we all just get along and share a drink? In this military mash-up, you’ll get a black plastic canteen from the Dutch military marked “NIET VERWARMEN KL 05” and “NSN 8125-99-173-0116 AVON”, plus a used camouflage pouch from the British military marked “CARRIER, WATER CANTEEN DPM, IRR 2007” and “NSN 8465-99-132-1556 DC1aESL/0156.” Canteen is 9" tall x 4" wide x 2” thick with an attached screw top. Case has a main interior space and a smaller pocket, both hook’n’loop and buckle fasteners, and a snap-button belt loop.

These World War II Era British Lee Enfield No. 4 MK1 and MK2 spike bayonets are 10-1/2" long overall. That includes the approx 8” “pigsticker” spike packed in Cosmoline in a steel scabbard with a P37 webbed frog belt attachment. The bayonet you get may have MK1 or MK2 markings on it, or none at all, sadly we can’t accommodate requests for markings. It’s a piece of history either way.

German safety goggles. Good for “sonne, winde und staub,” they say, and by staub they mean dust. These are gray rubber with a little, tinted sun visor that snaps on or off, an adjustable elastic strap and removable clear lenses. Lightly used, although if the thin foam padding around the eyes is deteriorated, it’s easily removed. Measure approx 8" x 4".

If there are two things the Swiss military knows, it’s knives and pumps. Here’s a manual water pump—used and surplus, which means it’s authentic, and collectible. Has a 20” long x 1-7/32” silver metal body, 12-1/2” long red wooden t-handle and a rubberish output hose approx 8 feet long x 5/8” dia. that has a threaded fitting and an 18-1/2” x 15/32” metal nozzle with, yep, a red wood handle. An arm with square hole and bolt for locking at desired height on the base’s heavy-duty support beam, depending on water levels, is just below the handle. Base is heavy cast metal approx. 12-5/8” x 11” and is chevron shaped. Probably dates from the early ’80s, back when the Swiss were neutral. These just in, special for military strap aficionados. Right angle olive-drab canvas strap. The wide part measures 17" x 2" and is sewn onto  a U-shaped steel clip with a 13-1/2" long x 1" strap mounted at right angles to it. Both straps have steel ends with (2) 3/16" holes. Quite useful for something, we're sure.
