Try this DIY starter kit for Arduino from Velleman. Comes with an UNO development board, an 830-hole breadboard, LED displays, key and tilt switches, IR diode and receiver, RGB matrix display and (15) assorted LEDs, assorted resistors, insulated jumper wires, a shift register, temp sensor, USB cable and 6-AA battery holder (and you’ll need to add batteries).
